Mrs. Jno. Rusche, a member of the Appleby Home Demonstration Club northeast of Nacogdoches in Nacogdoches County, was a Yard Improvement Demonstrator for seven years, during which time she greatly improved the appearance of her yard. Here she is showing off the results of her hard work to Miss M.M. Grubbs, District Agent (on the left) and Juanita Duggan, County Home Demonstration Agent (on the right). During the seven-year improvement project, Mrs. Rusche hauled in forty-two loads of dirt to fill the yard, relocated the garden, and moved the chicken yard and chicken houses as well as the smokehouse to the back of the house. She also planted many shrubs and flowers around the house and seeded the lawn.
