Mrs. Foster Selman, a member of the Homer Home Demonstration Club, who lived near Lufkin in Angelina County, places brined pickles in a jar as part of her project as a Pantry Demonstrator. Pantry Demonstrators canned large quantities of various types of food, most of which they grew themselves, to feed their families throughout the year. They stored these canned foods in pantries which they proudly showed to other rural women or to anyone else who was interested.

Mrs. Hallie Runnels, a Home Food supply Demonstrator in the Home Demonstration Club in Wharton County, proudly shows the many varieties of food she has preserved. Included on the shelves are corn, black-eyed peas, sweet peas, green beans, tomatoes, beets, and peaches. Note that each can has a label containing an illustration of the contents of the can. The jars need no such label, since the contents are clearly visible.
