The Milton Schaefer family enjoys a brief respite from chores on their farm near Lockhart in Caldwell County. Mr. Schaefer raises cotton, corn, hegari, sorghum grains, turkeys, chickens, and hogs, while Mrs. Schaefer sells angel food cakes, eggs, canned chickens, dressed hens, fryers, and pecan pies to help raise money to pay the mortgage on their farm. The three children, ages three through six, are too young to provide much assistance, but undoubtedly they too will be as busy as their parents before many years pass.
