Mrs. Charles Fulton of Kentucky Town community in Grayson County completes caning the seat of a rocking chair that had been in the family for at least two generations. Earlier she caned the back of the rocker and the seat of the other chair. Caning is a very tedious and time-consuming task, but the result is an attractive and comfortable chair.

When the Banquete Home Demonstration Club in Nueces County learned that the Henry Thomases were planning to dress up their yard with shrubs and trees, they asked Mrs. Thomas to serve as a Yard Improvement Demonstrator. She agreed in October 1947. They first hauled in sand and humus, and disced, leveled, and sodded the yard. Over the next year, Mrs. Thomas planted four trees, thirty shrubs, and twenty-six rose bushes. She also planted flowers in other beds. Mrs. Thomas is shown here trimming one of the shrubs.
