William B. Scates, New Orleans carpenter, 23, represented Jefferson Municipality. From the time he arrived in Texas in March 1831, he just couldn’t stay out of a fight: he participated in the Anahuac Disturbances of 1832, the siege of Bexar in 1835, and at San Jacinto, and he enlisted as a “private, age 62” for the Confederacy. He outlived two wives and died in 1882. |
