Mariana Folsom was active in Iowa's suffrage movement before moving to Texas in 1881.Folsom, a Unitarian minister, was a leader in the National American Woman Suffrage Association (NAWSA) and the Texas Equal Rights Association.  She lectured extensively for suffrage and passed the heritage on to her daughter, Erminia, who became active in establishing the Austin Woman Suffrage Association.
