Sam Houston's First Inaugural Address

The Republic of Texas established a temporary capitol at the town of Columbia (now West Columbia) in Brazoria County, where Sam Houston was inaugurated President after the first national election in the fall of 1836. The seat of government moved to the new town of Houston the following year.
