The Alamo: Image and Reality


Although often portrayed as an isolated building, a lone sentinel in the fight for freedom, the Alamo is in fact located near the center of downtown San Antonio and has long been elbowed by traffic and commercial activity. Today, only a small portion of its original three-acre site remains intact, making it difficult to imagine how it must have looked to its Texan defenders and Mexican attackers in 1836.
