Mound 30d, Urn Burial F-12, Izapa
Mid-1st century B.C.–1st century A.D.
Ceramic, remnants of stucco; height 11 3/8 in.

The effigy on this vessel wears a mouth mask which covers the end of the nose, the cheeks, and the ears. The open mouth may signify the force of the wind; or, perhaps, the power of divine speech.
