17. Writers of the Spanish Golden Age

The dramatists, poets, and novelists of Spain felt the full impact of accounts of discovery and exploration. Moved by the events, characters, and images conveyed by these accounts, they attempted to reinterpret them in their own work. Many of the writers never traveled to the New World, but some had firsthand experience, and others were born in the New World but chose to live and work in Spain.

Los dramaturgos, poetas y novelistas españoles se sintieron fuertemente impresionados por la lectura de relaciones sobre el descubrimiento y la exploración de América. Conmovidos por los sucesos, personajes e imágenes de estas narraciones, intentaron a su vez de traducirlos a sus obras. Muchos escritores nunca viajaron al Nuevo Mundo; pocos tuvieron contacto directo con la experiencia americana; y otros nacieron en el Nuevo Mundo pero prefirieron vivir y trabajar en España.
