The Spanish Symbol

This is called the Spanish fort, because near it Spanish ships used to dock in Galway (Ireland). Galway was, and remains, the main port on the western coast of Ireland. In the sea between Galway and Iceland, Christopher Columbus saw two corpses borne by a small iceberg whose features were totally different from those of white and black men. Believing that the two bodies bore Asian features, he took this as confirmation that Asia was closer than was claimed by Ptolemaic geography.
