The Tower of La Quarda
The port of Savona was, and still is, dominated by Leon Pancaldo's tower, known also as "the tower of La Quarda." The Pancaldo family were friends of the Columbus family. On January 4, 1514, with a public deed of the Spanish notary Benedetto Muņoz, Diego, Christopher's elder son, names Leon Pancaldo as proxy for the assets he still owned in Savona. Leon Pancaldo left his art in order to sail with Magellano's fleet.
