CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS THE GENOESE

In the month of August 1498, Christopher Columbus arrived at the Paria peninsula, off the northern coast of South America, close to the mouth of the great Orinoco River, and declared that he was seeing "un Otro Mundo, un Nuevo Mundo." These words signify a turning point in human history, when the world was enlarged beyond all imagining, and knowledge of the New World was born. Using archival documents, paintings and maps, along with modern views of historical settings, this exhibit recreates the world and life of Christopher Columbus, the Genoese.
