Considering the dispersal of African cultural groups and the church's efforts through the Inquisition to eliminate heresies and paganism, it is amazing that so many African-inspired religions survived in Latin America. Some of these are Santería (in Cuba); Shango (in Trinidad); Macumba and Candomblé (in Brazil); and Vodun or Voodoo (in Haiti and the Dominican Republic). |
