Essentially a long knife blade attached to a staff, the glaive was a traditional arm carried by the bodyguard at royal courts. This glaive, one of the most beautiful and elaborate weapons ever produced, was used by the palace guard of Cardinal Scipione Borghese-Coffarelli, the nephew of the Pope.
