Jousting Armor (Rennzeug)
German, ca 1580-90
The Rennen was a special type of joust practiced chiefly in Germany, in which knights used a sharp-pointed lance. The armor for this joust was constructed with a Renntartsche, a large molded shield which covered the upper arm, breast, shoulder, and lower half of the face, up to the eye slit of the helmet.
