PLATE ARMOR

When armed cap-à-pie (head to foot), the knight was an awe-inspiring figure, seemingly more than human. He alone could live by the chivalric code with standards too high to be reached by ordinary men. In reality knights were seldom better or more admirable than other folk, and they sometimes were worse; yet their armor always symbolized moral and spiritual, as well as social, superiority.
