Pikeman's Armor

Up to the middle of the seventeenth century, pikemen were the backbone of the infantry. Wearing armor to protect themselves from sword cuts and lance thrusts, they stood in massed squares to confront the cavalry when it attacked. The wide-brimmed hat was a defense against arrows. Their armor was not heavy enough, however, to be bullet-proof.
