Tomb Effigy of Jacquelin de Ferrierre

The large shield in the knight's left hand is engraved with horseshoes (fers-de-cheval), a pun on the name Ferrierre. The three corners of the shield were viewed throughout the era of the Crusades as symbolic of the Holy Trinity.
