Although Mrs. John F. Kennedy selected Manchester as historian of the President's assassination and funeral, she filed suit to prevent publication until Manchester deleted materials deemed "offensive and distorted" and "an invasion of privacy."
The Kennedy family also demanded this disclaimer on the copyright page:
