A Bath House
Let the bath keepers see that the baths are clean; that the water be temperate and the bath hot; that the bath house boys be attentive and quick; that the razors be cutting; that the boys be skillful in shaving heads; that leeches be applied where a man has a right to them. Let the services be properly rendered; washings should be by soap, and scrubbing firmly done with the serge hand-sachet.
--police ordinance issued in 1680 during the reign of Sultan Mehmet IV relating to the organization of bath houses
