Demarcation Point, Alaska/Yukon Photograph by Paul von Baich The aluminum-bronze international boundary marker was placed on the shore of the Arctic Ocean in 1912. The boundary between Canada and the United States, in the far northwest, is the 141st meridian, a line agreed upon in 1867 when the United States purchased what is now the state of Alaska from Russia, and accepted the territory as it had been defined in 1825 by Russia and England. |
