THE FUNERAL

Performing the last rites at Tutankhamun's funeral, his successor "opens the mouth" of the gold-masked mummy with a special instrument to reanimate the king for life in the next world. His widow kneels at his feet. One priest, wearing the mask of the god Anubis, holds the mummy upright, and a second priest holds water to sprinkle over the mummy for ritual purification.
