THE BACK OF THE THRONE
Photograph by Harry Burton, The Metropolitan Museum of Art
The back of the king's throne is considered its chief glory. Covered with sheet gold, it is decorated with a scene of Tutankhamun and his queen, Ankhesenamun. The scene is perhaps a ritual but evokes the private life of the royal couple: here, the queen puts the finishing touches to her husband's dress, anointing him with perfume.
