THE LAYOUT OF THE TOMB
From Treasures of Tutankhamun, Ballantine Books, NY

After removing the door to the tomb, Carter had to clear twenty-five feet of rock and rubble from a passageway before locating the sealed doorway to the Antechamber. Only after removing all the precious objects from the cluttered Antechamber was Carter able to turn his attention to the two sealed chambers which adjoined it. The room most nearly opposite the Antechamber, the Annex, was examined first and was found to contain articles similar to those in the Antechamber. It was in the other room, which opened off the right wall, that Carter was to discover Tutankhamun's tomb. On February 17, 1923, Carter opened the Burial Chamber.
