The Amphitheatre (summer view)

Like all Romans, the Pompeiians were very fond of competitive sports, which they had adopted from the Greeks. They ran races, wrestled, and played other games in the public gymnasium, but the most popular public games were the bloody gladiatorial fights held in the amphitheatre, the ancestor of our football stadiums.
