According to Arabian tradition and religion, the first thing Adam did on earth was to build the Ka'ba (the sacred place) and walk around it. The Qur'n says that Abraham rebuilt it, and it has remained a sacred place ever since. It is the direction (Qibla) toward which the faithful turn in their prayers five times daily.
