This spray, made up of three stalks of golden wheat, was reportedly found at Syracuse in 1900. The hollow kernels are wired to the central stems, and a fine, rolled gold wire emerges from the tip of each grain to represent the silk. In all likelihood, the spray of wheat was a votive or funerary offering invoking Demeter, the goddess of agriculture and regeneration.
