Discovered in the antechamber of the Royal Tomb, this gorytus, measuring 18 1/4 inches high, was the front of a case that carried a bow and arrows. The back side was probably made of leather. When in use, the case was worn at the hip. The richness of the materials and the elaborate design indicate, however, that the gorytus was used only for ceremonial occasions and not in actual combat. Several similar cases made of precious metal have been discovered in southern Russia.
